New Choir Robes are Dedicated

Piture by Michael Calverley
Easter 2013. The choir after the dedication of the robes: Picture by Michael Calverley

Some monthe ago now we decided, as a choir, that our old robes were getting very shabby and that we would raise sufficient funds to purchase new ones.

We would not put the burden of finance onto our hard pressed church but would raise the money by our own efforts.  This we have done, and particular thanks must be extended for the lunches at Jan's, for Mary's toys, to the organisers of the coffee morning and 'bring and buy' held at Michelle's and for the liaison and ordering carried out by Jan & Mary.  We would like to thank all in the village who supported these events and so made their own contributiuon.  Special thanks to the village organisations who so readily gave us grants and to individuals who generously donated.

All this resulted in the new robes being ready for Easter Sunday; so dressed in their new outfits of purple cassocks and surplice and having sung an introit, the choir processed in wearing their new robes.  Draped on the altar was a cassock and surplice providing focus for Reverend Paula to dedicate the new robes for use in our church.

The occasion was also used to remember with gratitude the contribution of the late John Sealy to the choir and worship in St Lawrence's, by dedicating the robes in his memory.  The choir went on to lead the singing in a very joyous Easter service held in a beautifully decorated church.

We would like to welcome new members to the choir (there is a spare robe).  So join us on at 6.00pm on Fridays - especially if you are a tenor.

M.A.M.
