| 2012 Carol Singing |
|
The annual carol singing was held on Wednesday 19th December and started at 6.00pm in Stoneleigh. We sang a few carols there, including 'Ding Dong Merrily on High' and 'Away in a Manger'. We then proceeded down Roughmoor Lane and sang outside the village shop before going on to Duck Lane and singing 'The First Noel'. Next stop was Lodge Hill, where a very kind local resident appeared with a box of chocolates to share among the singers! We moved on to Bell Close, which resounded to a heartfelt rendition of 'We Three Kings of Orient Are'. From Bell Close it was then up Station Road; some brave members of the Friendly Society went on ahead with reflective jackets and torches, to stop the traffic by the Village Hall so that the singers could cross safely. By about 7.15 we had reached The Square and the welcome sight of the marquee serving mulled cider and mince pies. The evening culminated with an appearance by none other than Father Christmas himself, who patiently handed out presents to the thronging children and even posed for some photos! Many thanks to everyone who sang, helped to set up and made the food and drink. The collection raised £80.52 which has been forwarded to STAR.
